Anyone need a truly ancient broken laptop?

Free laptop for any as want it. Not much chance this is any use to anyone, but if I'm wrong we can still retrieve it from the bin.

It's probably about ten years old or so, it's a Pentium 90 with 24 Mb RAM. The hinge is broken, so you have to prop the screen up against something to use it. Two PCMCIA slots. 800x600 256 color display. Weighs a ton. The only advantage it has over a £10 computer from eBay is that you can't get a monitor for that little quite yet.

I'm not really expecting anyone to take it; I'm just taking advantage of the fact that I've finally made Internet access possible downstairs.

Yep, so long as it's a parallel port printer...

I think someone could stick IpCop on it, slap a wireless card in, and have a perfectly functional wireless router..

I've got one just like that, and its great.

Mind you , 24Mb RAM might not be enough.. mine has 64Mb.

It doesn't even have an Ethernet port.

No USB? I've used old laptops for ADSL modem <--> wireless routers before, even with no ethernet.

Hope someone gets some good use out of it, regardless!

In that case, I suggest propping the screen up, running a terminal emulator in line-mode, setting the font really big, and using it as a prop for a Paranoia! RPG :)

Btw.. somewhere I have a laptop so old, it has a lead-acid battery in it.

Now that's a heavy laptop :)

Well if the hard drive is 5Gb or bigger then I would like to steal that from it? Otherwise I am not sure there is much I could do with it either. I've been getting rid of anything that old myself.

It looks like Kellan got in first, but if it turns out that he doesn't need it, I'll have it.

Sorry I couldn't make the party Btw, a few things came up.
