What position dost thou see thyself in?

Read too much web comic, must now share the goodness.

And what position dost thou see thyself in five years from this morrow?

Where have all the inspiration cowboys gone?

My Zalman Super Flower CNPS7700-AlCu has arrived. It is huge. Let's hope it fits!

Update: It fits. I got an electric shock and made a small blood sacrifice in the process of fitting it, but it's in. And it's *sooo* quiet!

I'm picturing some kind of large technological daffodil with the ability to fly. No?

Pretty much.

Ooh! This is a 'general case fan', rather than one attached to the processor right? How much was it?

No, that's just a processor fan! See pictures below...

It was about £40 including postage.

It's very, very quiet...

http://www.spamusement.com/ is a good one too. they make interesting cartoons inspired from subject lines in junk E-Mail. Lately, I really like the Jan 31st one.

With regards to the Zalman, I'd be very interested in a "review" of it (or even photos of it in the case?)

I've seen them in reviews, but never *actually* seen one in place and I'd be interested - I've heard they are quiet, but huge and heavy (and you've really got to watch out if you ever move one and its mounted vertically as I have heard tales of them pulling the fixtures off the board).

Cheers...

Jules

Here's one someone made earlier.

It's a big bugger.

(Mine is half aluminium - the all-copper one is more effective but weighs much, much more and QuietPC don't recommend it...)

It's a big bugger.

Makes me think about having it put into a desktop. The thought of that suspended, hanging off a motherboard in a mini-tower does not appeal - esp the copper variety.

Fans galore

My current system evolved from my experience with the mini tower, a computer I designed and assembled to fit in my stereo rack... well, the heat was so high the video card would flake-out with random blue stripes, telling me it was time to let it rest for a while. I now have the megatower case, with 5 case fans (one directly blowing on the cpu, 2 for the drive bays and 2 more for exhaust) and, of course, the obligatory Pentium chip fan and aluminum heat sink. So, naturally, the next computer I design for entertainment purposes will be much quieter!!!! (I bought the megatower case for ease of hardware installation too: it has doors, and sliding drive slots that doesn't require me to disassemble the system just to replace the harddrive.) It seems like a trade-off: size -vs- easy maintenance -vs- noise

That looks like its on a reasonably fully sized board aswell...

Heh - You'll have to let me know how loud it is (if thats possible by comparing it to say whispering or voices).

I must see if they do them for Socket 370 any more... My Volcano 9 Coolmod just doesnt cut it any more...

It's a desktop case.

I love that user pic. Completely makes it impossible to concentrate on your post. "Uh ... something funny ... something .... gaaah, he looks so hot!"
