Purple suit

(Wrote this on Thursday evening; it's taking its time to escape my phone for some reason...)

Didn't get the network going last night; the connection from L+L's PC to the switch behaved exactly as if the cable was severed, though the same cable was fine when plugged into my old laptop. I should have opened up the machine to see if I could see a hardware problem, but instead I played Castle Wolfenstein some more. Another time... Instead we were all nice to [livejournal.com profile] spikeylady and calmed her pre-interview nerves, and had a relatively early night.

From the sound of it the interview itself went very well; I can certainly testify that she looked fantastic in her purple suit, and that's what really matters :-) We may not hear the result until "early next week" by which time all our nerves will be in tatters. There are other cool jobs in London if she doesn't land this one, though, as we all keep reminding ourselves.

Just popping home now to pick up clean clothes for tomorrow before date with Lisa tonight - I am given to understand she has plans for me but I have no idea what they are...

You know the difference between a patch cable and a crossover cable, right? Sounds like you've made up the wrong sort.

No, I mean that when I used that cable to connect the laptop to the hub, the link lights light up, but when I unplug it from the laptop and into the desktop machine, it doesn't work. It's a straight-through cable.

Ah. I assumed the second case was laptop->PC. Does the PC then work with a cross direct to the laptop?

Posted that code...

Don't know if you noticed, but I posted up that Data Set Generator code up on my website... Check the original thread or my journal for links and more info. :)

OK, I'll look into it when I get a spare mo - thanks!
