Bah, I'm not the only ciphergoth.

FWIW "cipher" is the spelling used almost exclusively in the academic crypto world.

Update:I've discovered that he writes poetry.

ah, well he got his account after you, so cypher may have been a 2nd choice.

he's quite pretty though :)

and that was me posting, not her, cos she left it logged in, the silly girl.

pah, women and technology *shakes head and tuts*

Post it again as you, I'll delete the original and all replies...

why? :)

He doesn't appear ...

[identity profile] kitty-goth.livejournal.com 2001-07-08 09:42 am (UTC)(link)
... to have any interest in mathematics or crypto at all. And that definition of "cypher" is a bit wonky as well, IMHO.

Kitty, still enjoying the Cornwall sun xx

And you're not the only Paul Crowley about, either...

A couple of people I know were a little bit confused when they spotted (the other) Paul Crowley on netgoth.org.uk's gothmap... his interests include "Korn", "Slipknot" and "Marilyn Manson", iirc. If he turns up to events like Whitby, it could all start to get very confusing for people who don't know you or him irl...

Can we start a football chant?

[identity profile] kitty-goth.livejournal.com 2001-07-08 05:09 pm (UTC)(link)
"There's only one Paul Crowley,
One Paul Crowley,
One Paul Crowley,
....
All the rest are spookykids..."

(to be followed by a resounding drunken verse of 'Who the Fucking Hell are Slipknot?")

Next Whitby, anyone?

K xx

Oh, I think that really has to be done... :)

[identity profile] ciphergoth.livejournal.com 2001-07-09 06:52 am (UTC)(link)
Unfortunately netgoth seems to be down at the moment...

Netgoth MIA

[identity profile] mrph.livejournal.com 2001-07-09 06:57 am (UTC)(link)
Yep, Slashgoth, Netgoth and Darkwave UK have been down all weekend. :-(

Otherwise I'd have posted a link to the other Mr Crowley's profile...

Can't find him...

[identity profile] ciphergoth.livejournal.com 2001-07-09 11:40 am (UTC)(link)
There's only one other Crowley: "The Demon Crowley" aka Wesley. Well, if you were named after the irritating kid in Star Trek:TNG, you'd take on a posy nickname too!

http://www.netgoth.org.uk/gothmap/examine.php?person=5900

I even looked for people called "paul", and people with "korn", "slipknot", "manson" and "crowley" in their interests, to no avail...

The missing link

[identity profile] mrph.livejournal.com 2001-07-09 12:30 pm (UTC)(link)
No, really, there was one... :-)

New registration (which is how he got noticed) in Ireland. As Netgoth, Slashgoth and Darkwave have now been revived from old backups, everyone who registered in the last few weeks has been lost...

He'll probably turn up again in a week or two, though.

Having finally glanced at the Demon Crowley on gothmap... the poor bloke's on the Isle of Wight.

And that's considerably worse than being called Wesley, believe me... he has my sympathies.

I Have to Agree...

with Kitty Goth. He doesn't seem that exciting. Frankly, his journal is like a million other journals here. But I've been "warned" about saying such things...

Splendid.

Ask him how many cryptosystems he's designed.

[identity profile] ciphergoth.livejournal.com 2001-07-09 04:18 am (UTC)(link)
Designing them is the easy bit. Breaking them is the really hard thing...

Hiya.

[identity profile] cyphergoth.livejournal.com 2001-07-11 06:40 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah I'm not a cryptographer (sp?) or whatever... I was using 'cypher' as the original pre-modifying adjective meaning "empty" or "without meaning" ('Goth' of course is the subjective noun being modified).

I had chosen '- CypherGoth -' as my user name before I got my livejournal so no I didn't check for any other users. Nice to meet you. :)=

Those people that complimented me, thankies. *purr* hehe.

Those people that said my journal was boring/unoriginal... heh, what can I say, I must be a boring "empty" kinda guy then :-P
