Interview meme
I thought it would be fun to ask someone who didn't know me all that
well to interview me, so I asked
marnameow and I got fab set
of questions in return - thanks!
1. Textures. What are your favourites? Why are they so? Which make you squirm (in a bad way)? Why do they do this?
I'm not as pushed about leather and rubber as you might expect for one so perverted, though I do like them. Certainly when I'm feeling other people up, lycra and satin are usually more fun...
I try to avoid touching raw meat, and the texture of cold fried eggs makes me squirm.
2. Would you like selective-memory-erasing? To take out the bad bits in your mind? Or would you keep everything? Would you like the potential to do it, even if you never used it? Would you use it if you could erase and then restore?
God, no, I wouldn't touch a thing! I have very few regrets (too few to mention) and in many ways I value some of my more unpleasant memories if only because I showed the strength to get through those times.
I'm reviewing all my most unpleasant memories now, and I don't think I'd even contemplate being without one for a second.
3. What do you think of cows and sheep?
Cows and sheep suffer great defeats
They weren't quick enough on their feet
And now we're cooking them up to eat
Modern cows and sheep are barely like real animals - they've been bred to be meals and clothing on legs, and their lives contain zero variety. I haven't seen cows close up for a long time, and sheep never, so many of my impressions come from camping near them or pointing "cloud! no, wait" out the train window.
4. Are there smells that evoke vague longings within you? Can you name the smells? The longings?
Yes there are, I definitely have a strong memory reaction to certain smells, but I don't think I could name or describe them! Like dreams, the memory of them seems to fade strongly when they're gone. I'll update this if I think of a counterexample...
5. Do children (in general) scare you or entertain you? How does this change with number of kids, or their ages, or the situation? Does it make a difference if you know them?
I like to think of myself as someone who "doesn't like children",
because otherwise you're expected to like them all indiscriminately,
but actually I quite often meet individual children that I like if
they're clever.
lizw's three kids are a good example, all
of them are charming, very bright and good to spend time around.
Twelve-year-olds are usually most entertaining, they're old enough to
make interesting conversation but not so old that they feel an
obligation to be rude. I haven't really known any children as friends
for a long time, I don't think I've met
lizw's
nine-year-old B more than twice and that's more often than anyone else
I can think of around his age, but I'd think of him as someone I'd be
pleased to see again if (say) I learned he was coming to some daytime
social event.
