Time machine story

Clearing out my stuff a couple of days ago, I found a small Bonnie Langford doll that I won many years ago in an SF society "50 word epic" contest. My guilty secret, however, is that I stole the story idea from Rudy Rucker's "The Fourth Dimension and How to Get There". Anyway, it amused [livejournal.com profile] spikeylady so I thought I'd share it with you all. (updated slightly to make it clearer)
A miniature time machine appeared in the middle of the room and fell on my desk. I examined it for a minute or so; it had a dial in seconds, and a red button. To test it, I set the dial to sixty seconds, and pressed the button. It disappeared.

I like this story. This story is good!

Is there going to be more of this story in gripping installments?!
It looks quite promising.

Are you in London this weekend?

Ah no, a sequel would be, er, otiose.

Ooh, a new word. Ta :)

I've seen somebody do a trick like that before, only more interesting, I forget the details.

No it wasn't that one, but I did see that earlier and enjoy it slightly more than the trick in question.

So what you are in fact saying is that [livejournal.com profile] dennyd's contribution was duller than something else that wasn't interesting enough for you to even remember it?

[identity profile] dennyd.livejournal.com 2003-05-14 06:37 am (UTC)(link)
Sounds about right :)

[identity profile] nathan-nothing.livejournal.com 2003-05-14 10:01 am (UTC)(link)
I do forget a lot of things that are quite interesting. It was something about a time machine, and a post in the future and the other guy had already written it.
Might have been somebody round about here.
I'm sorry if I upset you as you seem to be quite pleased with your trick there.

[identity profile] dennyd.livejournal.com 2003-05-14 10:11 am (UTC)(link)
You haven't upset me - I don't even know you, why on earth would you upset me?

To clarify - by "sounds about right", I meant that my contribution probably was duller than something eminently forgettable. :)

I understood what you meant, and I thought I'd better take the precaution of apologising for any offense I may have caused by enjoying the forgettable trick over your dull trick. some people get upset quite easily in these sort of situations, sorry.

You're funny! I like it : )
