Babelfish fails me

[livejournal.com profile] ajva's bio says
Aimer est le grand point, qu'importe la maitresse?
Qu'importe le flacon, pourvu qu'on ait l'ivresse.
Babelfish translates this as
To like is the great point, which is essential the maitress? What imports the bottle, provided that intoxication is had.

all is revealed

Yes. Bloody Babel fish.

It doesn't really work in English, because it neither scans nor rhymes, but for the non-French-speakers out there, it means something like:

The important thing is to love, what does it matter who the mistress is?
What does it matter what is in the bottle, as long as one gets drunk?

Much prettier in French though. The quote is from a bloke called Musset, fact fans.
