Half-moving to London

Now that this has been discussed privately with all the relevant parties, I can make An Announcement.

All being well, I'm moving to London.

Well, sort of. I'm half moving to London. Most likely, I'm half-moving-in with [livejournal.com profile] ergotia and [livejournal.com profile] lilithmagna sometime around December or January.

I've wanted to move to London for ages - I'm always travelling there to see those two, and I have family and so many friends there that I don't get to see nearly enough of. However, I can't persuade [livejournal.com profile] purplerabbits to come with me, and in any case there are so many good people and things I'd be leaving behind - including, of course, that I legally own a flat up here.

So the solution seems to be to get a pad in London and divide my time fairly evenly between there and here, perhaps spending two weeks in each location before returning to the other. I'm able to do this because I work from home, so as long as there's broadband to hook my laptop up to, I'm away.

The original plan was to move in with [livejournal.com profile] kitty_goth and [livejournal.com profile] pure_mourning, but [livejournal.com profile] purplerabbits suggested that it might make more sense to move directly in with [livejournal.com profile] ergotia and [livejournal.com profile] lilithmagna, rather than constantly travelling halfway across London to see them. And I know I've complained about the state of their flat more than once, but if I lived there, I could do something about it. Furthermore, we've agreed that the rent that I pay will be ringfenced for flat improvements - and that sort of money can effect a lot of change very quickly.

We've still to work out some details, and though [livejournal.com profile] ergotia's daughter has been told about the plan and has indicated she's likely to assent, she'd rather we waited 'till she's moved out so the exact timing isn't clear, but the plan is there.

More, of course, in this LJ when I know it.

I'm looking forward so much to seeing more of so many of you!

Paul x

Excellent. So am I incidentally (not really had a chance to write a LJ entry about that yet).

YAY!

Be good to meet up with you properly (and recognise you!)

when are you coming to London again? Furnace is at the end of this month?

[identity profile] ciphergoth.livejournal.com 2002-10-10 07:49 am (UTC)(link)
I'm, uh, going to another event at the end of this month... also if Furnace is at the venue that Club L'Amour was at last time it's not that appealing!

Dunno when I'll be in London next. Sometime in late November I'd guess - perhaps the weekend of the 23rd? I haven't discussed it with any of the relevant people yet...

Yessss! :oD

See you soon.

Cool! I've always found the idea of living in two places quite appealing, you're lucky to get to do it.

[identity profile] skx.livejournal.com 2002-10-10 10:52 am (UTC)(link)

Agreed. Although in my case I'd wanna go somewhere foreign, warm and pretty - like Barcelona!

[identity profile] ladycat.livejournal.com 2002-10-10 07:26 am (UTC)(link)
What a fabulous idea. I wish I could join you. *hugs*

Doing it this way makes a lot of sense - unless you are very lucky, cross-London travel varies between being a bad dream to an absolute nightmare. And will get worse, at least for car / bus users...

wahey!

[identity profile] thekumquat.livejournal.com 2002-10-10 08:54 am (UTC)(link)
I anticipate mutterings about how in the time it takes to get anywhere in London, you could have flown back to Edinburgh!

Will be excellent to see more of you. Careful that DIY doesn't become addictive...

cool :D
so next year when i go down south (london or sussex, i think) for a phd (assuming i pass) there will be one more person i know!

So now everyone knows the cause of my recent euphoria :)

Well done!

I'm also living in two places and I like your plan. It's tiring, but I think that the benefits outweigh the disadvantages.

If I'm allowed a piece of advice, I'd say make sure you are in control of your living space in both places. If you are living with your partners, go through the process of defining your own living space, paying rent, etc. as you seem to be doing.

Have fun!
Pavlos

I favour unsolicited advice. The more advice, the better! Thanks!

Ooh, I might be moving to London soon as well, so having a Paul around too would be great.

Cool. I recommend the sleeper train from Kings X to Edinburgh.
