JAISIP

Today's dose of JAISIP: "We have known about this for 15 years", and the secret diaries (both taken from the Guardian's Special report).

What's the fascination?

Why are you so keen to follow what happens to this Jeffrey Archer fellow?

Cool EN t-shirt!

Because JA is one of those people who's the epitome of a lot that's wrong with Britain, I guess. The reports in papers like the Guardian suggest that people like him got to a high position in British politics and almost made even higher positions by being rich, having good drinking buddies, and intimidating the lowly, then lying in court, and getting people he had power over to go along with them. They could do that because of lots of dank things in the English legal system, like libel for the rich and being "well connected". People are paying so much attention because they see it as a triumph for natural justice. I think a lot of people have been pleasantly surprised how politicians from the last government or two have been held to account for their deeds.
Sorry, do give me a slap, I'm in rant mode.

Whereas one of the tabloids is running his actual diaries as a seering inditement on the state of british jail conditions. Like he's a crusading journalist...
