Big bag of updates
- My ears are feeling a lot better - thanks to everyone who asked!
- Remember we're having a party on Saturday!
- and it's .conception on Sunday.
- My digicam broke when I tried to photograph the giraffes in Amsterdam Zoo; it lost the ability to focus, and later it couldn't retract the lens at all. Yesterday I collected the replacement from the camera shop. I have photography again, yay!
- Also, my MP3 player broke *again*. That means that I've lost all the MP3s I ripped for it, and many of the photos that I and others took in Italy. The Florence lot are OK, but I don't have the fab photo of
kboyd in a swimsuit that I was so looking forward to. Boo!
- I had a good weekend. Thanks for a fab party,
gothtart and
vacant_!
- Tonight
pavlos is coming around I think. Tomorrow I shall go to the pub. Thursday I'm seeing
calar. Friday
ergotia and
lilithmagna arrive, all being well.
- I've been discussing trust metrics some more; if you're interested in this sort of thing join the
trustmetrics community, since it's a bit lonely being the only member...
- I have upgraded my main machine (which is both server and the box I sit at) to Debian 3.0. And I now use Galeon as my main browser. It rocks so very very hard.
- Whitby soon! yay! must wash some clothes.
- Jeffery Archer is still in prison.

And the 2002 edition of "How to win friends and influence people" will have a section about not asking people who've just suffered data loss whether they have backups.

It was having to learn much more about the internal structure of PageMaker data files than anyone outside Adobe should have to know that convinced me that if I want to keep something, it's on at least two different forms of media, ideally in separate locations.
If that means buying more flash cards for a camera, rather than wiping them once the photos have been transferred, so be it.
The people I really feel sorry for are those who expect their inkjet printouts of their priceless photos to last and who have wiped the files.

Could I casually remind you about your apache book - that is if it's still OK for me to borrow it for a while?
(I'd be happy to return it to your party at the weekend, I can't imagine it'll take that long to read).
