Making my job illegal again

Once again, the UK Government wants to make my job illegal. I really don't want to be forced out of Britain by this sort of shit...

Oh, and the tip of my left big toe was numb when I went to bed, and is still numb now. What could cause that?

If it's an EU directive, it doesn't even leave the option of Amsterdam. Hmm. does that mean that your employer should be drafting a response to the EU, as a European based company?

It's the bit about writing to the Secretary of State personally which made me squeak. Eek! I mean, do real people ever even look at these things before they publish them?

The EU directive is bad, but it's the UK implementation of it that's particularly threatening, because the exception for research is weakened into nonexistence...

About making your job illegal - big eek!
About the toe - in winter all my fingers & toes do that and it's something to do with the circulation being cut off to the capillaries that reach to the end. Try gently pricking the end of the toe with a needle repeatedly, just enough so it feels prickled - it wakes up the nerves in the skin and makes the capillaries vasodilate to give the nerves more energy to feel what's going on, or some similar explanation.

Bugger about the directive . . . time for another squealing campaign. They'd never make it stick, but a lot of damage could be done by them trying to.

As for the toe, it's a fairly nonspecific symptom. I've had numb toes caused by things like having my boots too tight and exam stress (!), and both recovered well. Banged your feet on anything lately? It could in theory be something quite serious, so keep an eye on it, but I'd guess it'll go away over a week or two and not bother you again.

The toe thing sounds vaguely like a circulation type problem - have you tried rubbing/wiggling it? Silly question - I'm sure you have - but sometimes things just need stimulation.

I get numb fingers and toes in cold-ish weather all the time - according to my doctor it is relatively common. It might just be your body responding to changes in temperature.

On the other news - the government is crap! Was talking to [profile] cairmen the other day, and we were discussing how many things would be illegal if they were introduced under the current government, starting with libraries - all those people reading the book without buying them!

The UK government isn't as bad as that lovely Mr Bush, but they are getting there...

Patrcia Hewitt's email address is hewittph@parliament.uk (thanks to the guardians Aristotle, the DTI is bereft of contact info) in case emailing her is easier than writing a paper letter (which it is, especially for us poor numptys w/o a printer.

Now if only I could talk to my mp.

The tip of my right middle-finger suddenly went numb yesterday morning and remains so... must be contageous. Leprosy perhaps? (Contageous leprosy though... eek!)

Does that mean you'd be forced to go and work in Berlin (I seem to remember that's where your compnay's HQs are)?
